EMS-to-ED clinical handoff assistant

triAIge: One AI system, from the ambulance to the emergency room.

Paramedics dictate during treatment, and AI completes the official EMS run report in real time. Before the patient reaches the ED, triage data is already entered, and the physician can review a handoff summary that cites the source of every sentence.

Overview: ambulance, hospital, triage desk and physician's room on one tabletop, with a thin line running from the physician's summary back to the ambulance.

Every handoff is a gap in time

  • Treating and recording at the same time means details arrive late or are missed.

  • Chief complaint, history, allergies and vital signs are asked again at every stage.

  • Prehospital, triage and chart records sit in separate systems, so the physician must piece them together and carries a heavy burden.

01Three roles

Paramedic

The form is completed during the interview.

The paramedic dictates or types on the EMS tablet, and AI completes the official EMS run report at the same time. The paramedic then confirms it.

Clay miniature of an ambulance interior: the paramedic and the patient speak, their voices travel as pale teal sound waves into the tablet, and its fields fill in pale teal, each marked for review.
The body map of the EMS run report (sample case): each injury site is coloured by wound type.

Triage nurse

Triage begins before arrival.

Prehospital data is entered into the TTAS triage form in advance, so the nurse only needs to ask about missing items. The level is calculated by TTAS criteria and finalized by the nurse.

Emergency triage desk: prehospital data is already on the screen, the nurse asks the patient for what's missing, and one of five level blocks is ringed as the suggestion.
Triage screen detail: AI suggests TTAS level 2 (emergent), marked provisional because data is incomplete; the final level is not decided yet.

ED physician

Take over with a clear picture of the case.

Every sentence of the handoff summary shows its source, and the summary lists common and can't-miss differential diagnoses with suggested tests.

The physician turns to the handoff summary on the wall-mounted TV: every line has a thin thread back to its source, a field, a level or a dictation.
Handoff summary detail (sample case): every sentence carries tags showing its source.

02Modules

End to end, adopted as you need it

Each of the three systems can be deployed on its own or joined into one complete handoff chain.

  1. Paramedic

    • EMS chartingDictation completes the run report.
    • EMS promptsPrompts for items still to ask, and suggests the level of receiving hospital.
  2. Triage nurse

    • Triage chartingPrehospital data is entered into the triage form in advance.
    • Triage levelSuggested level by TTAS criteria.
  3. ED physician

    • ED handoff summaryA summary in which every sentence cites its source.
    • Differentials and workupCommon and can't-miss differentials, with suggested tests.

03Integrations

Connects to the systems you already use

Fire departments and hospitals already run their own systems. triAIge connects through the standards each side uses, so nothing has to be replaced.

Fire department side

  • NFA TEMSIS 2.0

Sends EMS records to the fire department's existing EMS management system.

Hospital side

  • Hospital patient lookup (FHIR)

Looks up patient identity and history during triage.

  • HL7 v2

Works with hospital information systems that use HL7 v2 messages.

Both sides

  • triAIge open API

Exchanges EMS, triage and handoff data as REST JSON.

  • MOHW TW Core FHIR

Exchanges EMS records, triage results and handoff summaries as FHIR documents.

  • NCDR prehospital alerts

Sends EMS data ahead to the hospital and returns outcomes to EMS.
